| 10 Years of Room In The Inn The first Room In The Inn played at the Newhampton on 3rd February 1994. Keith Maer, our founder, was inspired when he realised he was meeting lots of people down the pub who had faith in God but had lost it in the Church. Keith decided to bring Church bands which he knew were talented to the people in the pub to provide a point of contact. The idea was for bands to play both secular and Christian secular music so as to show an approachable face that wasn't always seen in some Churches. Our event also proved successful for other reasons as it brought together people from different Churches who would not otherwise meet. It also gave opportunities for them to bring their friends along who would not normally go to church. People often forget that some of the finest performers in the world
cut their teeth in Church music, such as U2's Bono, Aretha Franklin and
Wolverhampton's own Beverley Knight. Wolverhampton and the rest of the
Midlands certainly have no shortage of very fine musicians in many of
it's Churches. If you would like to find this out come along. You will
not be disappointed. |
